J&B Red Program (US-Doctoral) (Creative Storytelling Within AMCAS Application ) Highlights: The client applying to medical school, aimed to utilize their pre-med background and interest in equity, cultural sensitivity, and language to create unique, compelling, 100-800 word essays to apply to thirteen, top-tier medical programs. During a three-step process, the J&B team collaborated with the client, balancing the client’s goals and personal insights with their expertise as essay consultants. Communication took place over Zoom and detailed note exchanges, allowing J&B to polish the admissions essays until they met both J&B and the client’s standards. As the client stood out as a unique applicant, J&B utilized creative storytelling methods to reveal the client’s experiences and capture their humanitarian goals, as a future medical practitioner. Case:J&B assisted the client with a thirteen-school admissions application for top-tier medical schools: Northwestern, Boston University, UMass, Dartmouth, Rutgers, George Washington, Georgetown, Emory, Brown, University of Maryland, USC, University of Pittsburgh, and the Mayo Clinic. A pre-med undergraduate, the client worked closely with J&B on their AMCAS application to ensure that their undergraduate research, interest in neuro-immunology, and community service experience would benefit their desired programs. Throughout the consulting process, J&B worked within a three-member team to ensure that the client’s voice, background, and message were reflected in the client’s admissions essays and captured their long-term goals of working as an M.D. practitioner within underserved areas of the U.S. Background:The client's application contained their desire to combat ageism, serve immigrant communities, and advance cultural sensitivity within medicine. J&B collaborated with the client to express the client’s unique interest in language and multiculturalism via compelling narratives within 100-800 word admissions essays. With their background in assisting patients with Alzheimer’s, the client worked closely with J&B to express their aim of treating elderly patients with humanity. J&B also utilized the client's gap year experiences to express the client’s commitment to improving the lives of others via public health advocacy and resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Process:The consulting process was split into three steps, throughout which J&B revised and edited the client’s drafts to best express their intentions. The client voiced their goals of creating unique and innovative essays that translated their experiences into compelling storytelling forms. J&B was careful to take the client’s suggestions into account, and on their end, revised multiple drafts for the client that met both J&B and the client’s expectations. J&B met with the client on Zoom and received detailed notes from the client—which J&B then utilized to expand the creative component of the client’s essays. The client was careful to provide a list of deadlines for each school, which J&B adhered to. At the end of the writing process, the client submitted their admissions essays in a timely manner and was satisfied with J&B’s product.
