The Topic:J&B consulted with the client on a 4*0-word op-ed for the New York Times Editorial Contest exploring the importance of lifestyle changes. The Process:At the start of the project, J&B met with the client to brainstorm potential topics. After the client shared several ideas with the team, J&B prepared three topic recommendations for the client to help them decide on a main theme. Once the client selected their topic, J&B shared a detailed outline with the client to help them write their first draft. Using J&B’s outline as a guide, the client incorporated their own narrative into their op-ed. The team then heavily edited and revised the client’s draft, and returned it to them with suggestions. The client followed J&B’s guidance to produce their second draft and shared it with their professor for a final review. J&B worked with the professor’s edits and revised the client’s draft so that it would be ready for submission. At this stage, the client also shared a brief, 140-word summary describing their writing and motivation process for the New York Times. The team edited and finalized the client’s statement to ensure that the entirety of their submission was polished. Writing Style:The client is an honest, introspective writer unafraid to bring their unique voice to their work. To help the client fine-tune their op-ed, J&B worked closely with the client on simplifying language, capturing the most essential details, creating a consistent tone, and paraphrasing. At the end of the project, the client’s final draft reflected J&B’s guidance, the client’s independent narrative, and a strong, takeaway message that made their essay memorable.
