J&B Red Program (US-Undergraduate)Exploring Biological Systems in a Pre-Med Application Highlights: The client, applying to New York University, Washington University, and Johns Hopkins, worked with J&B to create a Common App essay and a series of supplementary essays capturing their interest in biology and pre-med. During several five-step processes, J&B worked closely with the client to guide and revise their writing process, using detailed outlines and clear, supportive communication via Zoom. J&B helped the client utilize their strong academic background to reach their aim of attending their desired universities and achieving their long-term goal of working in breast cancer research. Case:J&B worked with the client on a Common App and supplementary essay admissions project to New York University, Washington University, and Johns Hopkins. As an undergraduate student aiming to study pre-med and/or biology, the client hoped to utilize their interest in interactive learning, scientific writing, and the interconnectivity of the human body system to express their interest in the programs of their choice. J&B utilized a three-person team and a five-step process to tailor the contents of the client’s essays to capture their goals. J&B utilized a system of editing, guiding, and outlining the client’s essays to help them pursue their interdisciplinary focus on biomedical research and medicine. Background:The client's Common App and supplementary essays utilized their personal narratives of colorblindness and trilingualism as a metaphor for learning within the scientific field. Using detailed outlines, J&B helped the client to use their experiences researching CRISPR-mediated genome editing to highlight courses at NYU and Washington University that met their focus. In 250 to 550 words, J&B helped the client create a synthesis of personal and expressive essays that highlighted the client’s love of learning and long-term goal of contributing to breast cancer research. The Process:J&B split the client’s projects into two components, containing: 1) client-based essay writing, guided by detailed outlines, and 2) J&B’s step-by-step process of editing and revising a series of drafts via Zoom sessions. Throughout the process, the client shared with J&B their desire to present clear, insightful narratives that contained a logical flow. J&B was careful to revise drafts with these goals in mind and worked with the client to produce a series of essays with critical thought and cohesive structures. J&B scheduled the project with the intention of completing the client’s essays prior to their deadlines, to leave room for any final edits.
